Over the 3.5 days (Wednesday, April 10 – Saturday, April 13), Hazen FBLA sent 41 students to the annual State Business Leadership Conference in Bellevue and our students did not disappoint. Below is a list of those who competed, what they competed in, and how well they did in their event(s). Just a little idea of how our chapter did… Thursday, April 11, was preliminary competition day in which Hazen had 35 presentations (some competed individually, some competed as teams, some competed in one event, some competed in multiple events). Early Friday morning, April 12, Top 15 finalists are announced. Of the 35 presentations out chapter had on Thursday, 20 of those presentations were announced as Top 15 finalists. Of the 20 presentations that made finals (Top 15), 17 placed in the top 10 in the state.
FBLA nationals took 18 students from Hazen and 2 students from Lindbergh to Baltimore, MD from Jun 26 - July 2! This was the largest group of students Hazen has ever sent to the national conference, and what an exciting time it was! From walking almost 10 miles exploring the streets of Washington DC, to the Nationals Aquarium in Baltimore, we were treated very well during our time on the east coast. Although no one from Hazen placed in the top 15 this year, just getting to the national conference is a victory. This group was young and had many first year members qualify to compete at nationals, which make us excited for the next year of FBLA and competition.
This year, Hazen made the 10 mile trek up to Bellevue for the 2018 Washington FBLA State Conference! To say that we did FANTASTIC is a gross understatement. They were respectful, supportive, and all around amazing representatives of Hazen High School and the Renton Community! Of the 20ish events we were in during Thursdays preliminary competitions, we made it to finals in 16 of those events. This means that 16 of our 20 teams placed in the top 15 in the state! Students who place in the top 4 in their events have an automatic bid to the Nationals Leadership Conference, while those who place 5th-10th are the runners up. Hazen results are:
Last Tuesday, June 27, 14 representatives from Hazen High School boarded a plane and headed to Anaheim, CA to join 13,000 other members from across the nation to compete against the best of the best that FBLA has to offer. This was the first year that Hazen has ever sent 13 members to the FBLA national conference and the first year that we have placed in more than 1 event at the national level. The students who represented Hazen High School were:
Once again, we headed to Spokane for the annual state conference, and it was a blast! To say this year in FBLA was amazing is an understatement, and we have SO MUCH to be proud of this year! I want to start off by thanking you all once again for your continued support of our FBLA chapter and members! Hazen FBLA has now been labeled as one of “those chapters”, meaning that other chapters strive to accomplish the same types of goals we were able to accomplish in an very short period of time. Our students are great! They have worked hard on their projects and competitive events throughout the year, and it showed this last week at Washington FBLA State Conference 2017! While not everyone was able to qualify for nationals in their events, our students walked away from Spokane feeling confident and excited for next school year. That’s winning in my book! A trip to nationals is just a nice bonus!
Hazen FBLA ended up taking the most students out of any chapter in WAFBLA to the annual state conference. With 68 total students in attendance, there was plenty of work to be done and an incredibly busy schedule. Thursday started our days of competition with all the preliminary presentations. Hazen competed in 30 of the 48 events that presented on Thursday, which means that I sat in the corner of the Davenport Grand Hotel for 5 hours, coaching our members, listening to presentations, debriefing with them after their presentations, and celebrating with them when they came out feeling excited and with a big smile on their face! Friday was finals competition day. Of our 30 presentations given on Thursday, 24 groups got to compete for finals (20 from Thursday’s preliminaries + 4 teams that qualified from a testing event before we arrived in Spokane)! In order to make it into finals in your competitive events, you must score within the top 15 in the state for that respective event. In order to qualify for the national conference in Anaheim, you must place within the top 4 teams/individuals. Winter Conference was held at Pacific Lutheran University and Hazen represented really well! Due to other competition certain events not presenting, we only had 70 members attend conference. Serving as our state qualifier competition, you must place in the top 6 teams/individuals in your respective event in order to compete at the annual state conference. Not all members registered are listed below as they signed up, but then did not compete on the day of conference. Below is the closest and most accurate list of people we could find.
State Business Leadership Conference was held this year at the Davenport Grand Hotel in Spokane. This year, Hazen sen 35 total members which is roughly 64% of our 2015-16 chapter. This was a record breaking year for Hazen FBLA! On our way to conference, we stopped by Mr. Rustemeyer's farm in Sprague where we got to bottle feed a baby lamb, collect chicken eggs, learn a little about agriculture, and have fun on the rope swing in the Rustemeyer yard. After a couple hours spent at the farm, we finished the final leg of or trip to Spokane where it was all business from there on out! Congratulations to those who attended State Business Leadership Conference! The following students competed in the following events:
